The OpusX Petit Lancero

Legend Wrapped in Fire: The OpusX Petit Lancero

🔥 Reviewed by Jeff Fuller

Introduced in 1995, the Fuente Fuente OpusX didn’t just enter the cigar scene—it reshaped it. Grown in the once-doubted, mineral-rich soils of Chateau de la Fuente in the El Cibao Valley, this cigar proved the Dominican Republic could produce world-class wrapper tobacco. And in this Petit Lancero format, the OpusX becomes a masterclass in precision and intensity.

Those who know me know I smoke a lot of cigars—and even more Fuente. I’ve always loved the OpusX line, but this was actually my first time smoking the Petit Lancero, and let me tell you… it was awesome. Tight, focused, and full of flavor from start to finish.

🔍 First Impressions

This slim, elegant vitola is dressed in a flawless Rosado wrapper with a gentle oil sheen and perfectly applied cap. Its signature band remains one of the most iconic in the industry—bold, classic, and regal. Pre-light draw offers a mix of cedar, red pepper, and sweet raisin.

🔥 Flavor

The opening is a burst of Dominican power—white pepper, earth, and a touch of baking spice. As it develops, waves of leather, toasted almond, and dark fruit emerge. The balance between sweetness and spice is captivating. The final third deepens with rich espresso, cedar, and a lingering spice that reminds you why this cigar carries its legend.

🧱 Construction

Impeccably rolled. The draw is just right for a lancero—slightly snug but intentional, allowing the flavors to concentrate. Razor-sharp burn line with a solid ash that holds for over an inch.

🔥 Burn

Even burn throughout, with no touch-ups needed. The combustion is slow and deliberate, delivering a perfect 45–60-minute experience that never rushed but never dragged.

💨 Final Notes

The OpusX Petit Lancero is a legendary smoke that lives up to the hype—especially when enjoyed slowly and with intention. It’s bold, elegant, and unforgettable. For those seeking a refined yet powerful Dominican puro, this one’s a rite of passage.
